
Mary Riggs Cohen, PhD
Dr. Mary Riggs Cohen is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Social Learning Disorders Program of the Psychiatry Department of the University of Pennsylvania and has taught the Social Skills Seminar for young ASD adults there for five years. Dr. Cohen has thirty years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults and their families. She has worked in the field of autism spectrum disorders for twelve years and specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of Asperger’s Syndrome. Dr. Cohen provides individual therapy, family therapy and social skills training groups for adolescents and young adults. She has training in neuropsychological assessment and provides neuropsychological evaluations for AS individuals to better understand their unique cognitive profile and assist in educational and vocational planning. Dr. Cohen is a consultant to several regional schools and assists with the special educational programming needs of ASD students. She is a clinical consultant to the Coffeehouse Center of Bucks County which provides support for young adults with Asperger’s and PDD-NOS. Her ongoing research is in the area of Asperger’s Syndrome, gender differences and social anxiety in ASD.
Dr. Cohen is a graduate of Wake Forest University and received her doctoral training at the Catholic University of America. She received postdoctoral family therapy training at the Philadelphia Child Guidance Center and was a clinical supervisor in the psychology training program through the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Cohen has been an instructor at Holy Family University in the graduate counseling psychology program and a PA CASSP institute presenter. She is a frequent guest lecturer at autism organizations and schools and colleges in the Delaware Valley. She is the author of "Social Literacy: A Social Skills Seminar for Young Adults with ASDs, NLDs, and Social Anxiety." It is published by Brookes Publishing.
